Is it a Crime? Or Lime? Or maybe a Swine?

Hello!

My blog sale was a huge success, thank you all! There's still one stargazer glitter and 2 stargazer star glitters left, and one lonely Gosh eyeshadow duo Silver/Gray!

But anyway, off to the makeup!

So today I wanted to make something quite plain, but still a bit dramatic, so I ended up doing kinda brown, glittery smokey with UD BoS vol II:

(Yes. yes, YEESS I over-liner my lips royally! *g*)

Yesterday mailman brought me this:

Yes, it's a (quite cute!) package from Lime Crime.

I was contacted by them, and they asked if I wanted to try out their products.
To be honest, I've always wanted to try their lipsticks, and this was a perfect opportunity to try them out.

So I asked Doe Deere to pick her favourite lipsticks for me, and she send me two lippies:

Styletto, which is deep black, and No She Didn't which is light blue:

I know all the gossip and drama around Lime Crime, and I'm not gonna say anything about that.
My opinion in this case is based only on the products I received.

First of all, I think their shipping box is cute.Usually cosmetics come in basic envelopes or cardboard boxes, but Lime Crime has their own box that fits their imago with übercuteness, cupcakes and unicorns.
Sure the box is maybe a bit big for two lipsticks but honestly (I know I'm a bad person) I really don't care. :3

So the lipstick boxes are also unique, as well as the lipstick tubes.
Tubes are a bit bigger than MAC's tubes and I have to admit that they remind me a bit of a vibrator :3)
I can understand why some people think they are childish, but it doesn't really bother me. It's the inside of the tube that matters :D

So what's inside then?

Lipstick.

There isn't a monster or rainbow or unicorn, it's  a lipstick. It's not the ultimate evil or ceiling cat.

What I'm saying here is that personally I think it's a good lipstick. Sure the color choices are a bit problematic, both stain especially on the dry parts of the lips, but I don't see that as a problem, since I can always use makeup remover to take it off.
I also want to note that I wouldn't go out of the door with these, so I don't know how well they stay during the day.

All I know is that they work bloody well for the looks I make.

They are really opaque, maybe you need more than one swipe, but what lipstick doesn't?

It's not my job to tell people wheather buy or not to buy from Lime Crime, this was just my opinion of their lipsticks :)

Here's my swatches:

No She Didn't

Styletto:
Then I put my Styletto in to a test.

I don't know what this was supposed to be, but here it is:
(never mind the heavy manipulation, for some reason I looked awfully bloated in the original :S)

Made with Grimas white, Kat von D Lucifer and MAC Blacktrack.

I guess that's all this time!

  5. Adore the first look...well, the second too. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the LC lipsticks looked like...well, something else.

  6. I would never buy from Lime Crime, but I do think that these colours look very good on you. It must be a case of how you apply the lipsticks, because I've seen pictures of them on other people's lips and they look like terrible quality. But here they look quite nice :)

  7. One of the reviews I read online said the lipsticks stained the skin. Did the blue or black stain your lips?

I really like the black look you put together.

  8. I really like Lime Crime lipsticks too! I think that people are judging Lime Crime much harder than say, Benefit or MAC. Why? I don't know, maybe because it's a small indie makeup company that got really successful and big and people are jealous? I don't know, and I really don't care, neither for their reason to be so negative nor the gossip. I love my Lime crime lipsticks and I wear them all the time. I have only experienced staining from Countessa fluorescent, none of the others I bought and that includes No she didn't. Try wearing a lip balm underneath (aren't you always supposed to? ;) ) and then the lipstick and you won't have to worry about staining. I use Burt's bees lip balm, then the lipstick. And usually one stroke gives enough colour but not precision when applying.

And for lasting power I find that they last very well. Usually there's a lot left after I've had lunch, but I prefer to wipe it all off before re-applying so I get all oils and food left overs away too, lol!But yeah, I'm a heavy tea and coffee drinker and go through at least 10 cups of tea in one day and the lipstick still looks untouched before eating lunch.

However I think the formula, as will all formulas wether it's mascara, lipstick, eye shadow, foundations or whatever product it is, they work differently on different lips and I just happen to have the perfect lip to wear these lipsticks.

  9. That light blue looks amazing, but... I didn't know much about Lime Crime and when you said there's something scandalous I had to see for myself. ;) Well, I don't think that those talks are all invented and just another jealous b*tching and I wouldn't buy from a company with that kind of reputation. Even though the colour looks spectacular.

Anyway, do you have a full face pic with that shade? It would show better how the colour looks on face. :)

  10. Oh No She Didnt actually looks good on you! It's looked horrible, chalky and streaky in every photo I've seen =/

  11. Beautiful looks!

I've never heard of Lime Crime before this post, the colours look good but I'm put off by the tube.. I want my makeup to draw attention to me, not what I'm applying it with..

  13. I'm pretty happy that you just take into consideration the product in itself... I was searching for crazy colors, maybe will I try to invest in those lipsticks. (I do hesitate with the OC Lip tars, but you do not use them the same way).
